For more than 30 years, my life has been enriched telling the stories of some of the most fascinating people, innovative companies, pressing issues, and pioneering products as a professional journalist and business writer.
A high level of wonderment and genuine desire to empower others to tell their story in the most authentic and compelling way drives me to create content that is engaging and impassioned.
My journey as a professional writer began in the 1980s as a newspaper reporter for the Coatesville Daily Record. Immersed in one of Pennsylvania's poorest cities, my beat in this former steel town covered everything from education and crime to government and business.
From this rich training ground, I was tempted to trade journalism and the primal world of precious stones and metals, with its international cast of colorful characters. I accepted a job in 1991 as as editor-in-chief of the bi-monthly trade journal, Colored Stone. From there, I went on to serve as a senior editor at the twice-monthly National Jeweler magazine.
In 1996, I became an independent contractor, providing extensive writing services to important trade organizations, supply houses, manufacturers, retailers, designers and independent artisans in the jewelry industry. I have worked on assignment in more than two dozen countries and counting.
I remain a longtime regular columnist for MJSA Journal and Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist, and frequent contributor to Rapaport Diamond Report. Over the years, I have written for many jewelry publications, including JCK and Instore.
My byline also has appeared in such consumer publications as Condé Nast Traveler and Penthouse, and newspapers including The York Dispatch, York, PA.
While a good part of my career has been storytelling in the fine jewelry industry, I have spun press for local businesses like high school principals turned cupcake bakers; produced children's instructional craft books; and managed U.S. press relations for a Geneva-based watch auctioneer.
Throughout my career, I have gratefully accepted the extended hand of pioneering women mentors who've inspired me to lift as I climb. My volunteer activities involve empowering women, minorities, and young people in civic engagement and self marketing. I also serve my community as an elected school board director and public education advocate.
I believe that living and working in wonderment bring out the best in all of us.
